Safety

Safety

Venture Mechanical's management recognizes that on-the-job accidents cause unnecessary human suffering, loss in production and higher insurance costs.

The safety and health of each employee and visitor are of paramount importance in our operations. The prevention of occupational injuries and illness is of such consequence that it is given precedence over productivity, expediency or shortcuts whenever necessary. To the greatest degree possible, management takes care of all the mechanical and physical factors required for personal safety and health in keeping with the highest standards.

To be successful, every employee must have the proper attitude toward injury and illness prevention. Therefore, it is essential that each department head, superintendent, lead mechanic and employee take an ongoing interest in the prevention of accidents. They must provide the leadership that will inspire their associates to work in a safe manner.

It is our everyday commitment to comply with all safety laws and ordinances. Therefore, we insist that all employees, from our installers to our CEO, give serious attention to making a safe workplace an important part of their daily activities. Several of the ways that we make this happen are as follows:

  • Venture Mechanical committed years ago to always employing a full time safety director. This position has been filled since its inception by James Tabor. James holds many certifications needed in the industry such as OSHA Course 500 and 502, Construction Site Safety Technician (CSST), CPR/First Aid/AED and Yale Training Instructor on Power Industrial Trucks (Forklifts). He also is constantly working to implement new procedures to keep up with the ever changing construction environment.
  • An important part of a successful safety program is communication with employees to keep them educated about current safety issues and reinforcing past concerns. Monthly in-house safety meetings are held with all field employees to discuss major topics such as hazardous communication, fall protection and electrical safety. In addition to these gatherings, weekly on-site meetings are held at which every crew discusses and identifies potential safety issues for the site they are working on.
  • All new employees go through a company safety orientation upon being hired. This consists of training for specific safety practices that the company has implemented as well as training in all required OSHA safety topics. Some of these are personal protective equipment, ladder safety and OSHA standards compliance.
  • Every accident and near-accident is reported to the safety director. A report is compiled, and "lessons learned" are shared with employees at future safety meetings.
  • A safety awards program is in place to encourage safe working practices and includes monthly and yearly "accident-free" awards. Several employees are currently working with an "accident-free" record of more than fourteen years.

Venture is very proud of its safety record, which has been the recipient of two Gold and seven Silver Level awards from Associated Builders and Contractors dating back to 1991. For this plan year our EMR is .82, down from .94 in 2012. Some additional safety figures are shown below:

Figures for 2015

  • Recordable Incident Rate: 2.63
  • Lost Time of Incident Rate: 0
  • OSHA Citations: None
  • EPA Citations: None

Figures for 2014

  • Recordable Incident Rate: 1.72
  • Lost Time of Incident Rate: .86
  • OSHA Citations: None
  • EPA Citations: None

A safe workplace creates an environment that encourages high morale, productivity and quality workmanship. With this achieved, Venture Mechanical will satisfy its customers expectations.
